About a month ago, I took the car to this mechanic i know at had him change all 4 shocks on my 1999 Mitsubishi Carisma.

The thing is that the mechanics in this country don't know a damn thing about cars and fixing them.

There is a sort of rattle coming from the rear shocks. Its the noise of metal and metal hitting together. Its not always, but when the car is sort of tilted on a turn or bump.

I know its the shocks, cuz I never had that problem before. Could it be that they didn't tighten them correctly? Can I attempt to tighten them without taking them off? (I hope I can cuz im not taking the car to another mechanic, from now on, either I fix it, or It stays the way it is)

 

I would check all the nuts that hold the shocks up on the body and the nuts and bolts thathold the shocks in place on the suspension side. Hell, to be honest with you, I would check everything that those guys may have touched, lol.

Ya, I don't trust these mechanics over here. The problem is that they don't know what they are doing, but they charge their customers as if they are professionals!

Fortunately not all the mechanics are like the one you took your car to. I would pay this one a visit and ask him some questions about what he discovered on your car when he changed shocks. Maybe you needed a new bushings too, but since you didn't supply them, he just put in the shocks. That's why blaming a mechanic is always easy, especially when you just ask him to replace something without looking into other things that might need to be replaced as well. Looks like your rubber bushings are gone too. I'm quite unsure what design there is, but I'm very positive there must be some rubber bushings toattach the shocks to the chassis.

 

Oh, forgotto mention. The way he put and tightened the shocks is also critical. It is a good practice to get them tight when suspension is loaded (just like if your car was normally sitting all four wheels on the road), this way there's no stress in the bushings and possibly some other parts. Most mechanics ignore this.So, there's a chance that by just following this technique you can get your problem go away, But I would personally get a new bushings anyway. Good luck. I asked him if I needed to change the bushings. His reply was that they do not need changing...... He was being sarcastic and started mentioning that if I had some change I didn't want to keep in my pocket, I should change them.
