Default Stereo

So i installed a radio on a Bonneville it had the origanal stereo and i put a CD player on it. After i installed it it sounded good until a certain volume then the speakers sounded disrupted or something. When first installing the stereo i coudnt connect both the back and front speakers because the stereo woud shut off sort off. so i connected only the front speakers and then i thought of buying new speakers i did i installed them and it still sounds the same what the **** is going on???? I woud apreciated the help asap please

when it shuts off, i believe that it is "clipping"...im not a big radio guru, but i had a car in college, that if you turned it up too loud, it would break up at first, then the HU would shut off...and sometimes, you had to wait for it to come back on..i believe that it has to do with something pertaining to th amount of power being crawn through the HU...are the speakers amped?
