Default Tranny problems

So I'm merging onto the highway in my 98 Mirage, going about 55ish (cars all around me) when it starts slowing down. The motor is still running but I have no gears - no reverse, drive, or 1, 2. We towed it home and put in a new ATF (outside) filter and added fluid. Still nothing. When the car is not started and running, I can hear a hum when I shift to reverse or drive. What's going on? Anybody know? Do I need a new tranny or can it (please) be something cheaper? Any help would be appreciated.

Default RE: Tranny problems

sounds like its time for a rebuild. Internal parts are wore out. Could be the torque converter too, but my guess is its time to rebuild the tranny.
