Angry Chariot 2.4 GDI 4G64 problem (Cold Smokey)

Greetings from New Zealand,
Can you Guys and Gals explain.
We recently purchased a 1999 Chariot Grandis 2.4 GDI which i believe has the 4G64 engine.
Motor seems to be getting more "Smokey" at startup, yet i don't seem to have any power loss whatsoever.
Smoke clears after a minute or two and its all good. Great little car for my wife and the fuel consumption is great.

Do these engines have a inherit problem (Smokey when cold) or is the motor on its way out. My theory was it would continue to smoke if the motor was shoot.

Someone the other day commented to me that they have a oil ring issue, Is this correct.

Feedback - ideas - options all greatly appreciated

Cheers Tony
