Default Opinions: 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Ok, to start with, my fiance is wanting an eclipse really bad...so I found one and I am really considering getting for her... what do you all think?

It is a automatic w 90K miles. Black and beautiful. The owner is a female and she wants 7500 for it.

Check engine light is on, and the code reads cylinder 5 misfire.

I'm going to meet up with the lady and replace the plugs and wires, and I'm also going to get the 5th piston pressure checked at Midas.

If everything checks out and only a tune-up is needed, is it a good deal? I don't know too much about the newer eclipses...

Well is it a sporty auto with the sportronic tranny?? $500 is NOT a bad deal at all. That is right around what they are going for maybe slightly less actually

Doesnt sound like a bad deal to me as long as all it needs is a tune up.

Is there anything else I should have Midas check before purchasing the car?

you know you could do the compression test yourself really easily and save some money. But if your gonna have midas do stuff then you might as well have them check out the suspension and brakes.

00-05 Eclipse GT yes they are built well for there purpose. they are great when left N\A but can only take about 8PSI on boost stock pistons are the weakest link the rods and rest of the bottom end are very strong. They are a pain to work on spark plugs and timing belts are a chore since on head is behind everything and under the intake plenum.

Other useless facts.

in 00-01 they made 2 types of GT eclipse (and two types of the RS and GS as well) one is known as the cali and the other is the fed. basically the fed is a little faster and takes better to mods makeing slightly more power. The fed spec has better exhaust manifolds less emmisions controll one CAT instead of two it just flows a lil better. So that might be something to find out since feds are kind of rare I guess you would say
