Is this a tranny or a clutch?
It is a eclipse gs 99 and has 70k miles on it. I have problems shifting into each gear. The shifter dosnt want to go into the gear smoothly,it does not grind but it does not go in smoothly, you have to feel it's way in. The clutch pedal is noticabley loose now too, everyone I talked too sais a clutch what should I think and how much would each one cost me?

RE: Is this a tranny or a clutch?
Well I am pretty new to the whole Mitsubishi thing so I personally havent worked on one. But I've replaced clutches in my civic. And when the clutch was goin bad it was noiticeably harder to shift and the clutch was really loose. If I were you I'd go ahead a replace the clutch. Hope this helps you .

RE: Is this a tranny or a clutch?
Is this problem sudden or was it over time? It could be many things, master or slave clutch cylinders going bad, check you peddle adjustment rod( under the dash), low fluid like FireDoc mentioned, if its low you might have caught some air in the line, so try and bleed the system. I have worked on 2 eclipses with similar problems and both times it was not the clutch. One of them actually had a bent clutch fork. So its really tough to say, be more spacific about it. Does the clutch grab right off the floor, or is it high?
