Default Warranty and severe service schedule?

I am located in Canada and have been servicing my 2017 Outlander by the regular service schedule that came with the car when I bought it at a dealership.

When I tried to book my first major service at 32,000kms at my local dealership, they told me that I should have been following the “severe service schedule” as all vehicles in Canada are supposed to follow that.

I have since looked up the severe service schedule in my service manual and it says it is considered severe service if “day or night temperatures below 0 Celsius or 32 Fahrenheit.” This certainly does describe anywhere in Canada, and also most of the United States and even parts of Mexico!

This seems crazy. If everywhere in Canada needs to be o the severe maintenance schedule, why did my car even come with an option for a regular service schedule?

At any rate, it looks like I may have unintentionally voided my warranty by not following the proper service schedule. The severe service schedule is only described in a single paragraph on page 16 of the service manual, and I’m wondering if others have missed this too.
