So who here races for their hobby/sport?

I'm not talking about street racing, or nascar or anything, just racing "normal" cars around the track every now and then.

I'm no car enthusiast (yet), but I'm interested in racing as a hobby. How do you get into it? Are there amateur leagues you can become a part of?

Basically, if someone could quickly explain track racing as a hobby to a complete newbie it would be much appreciated.

You can go for the sake of fun and even do the track with a minivan if your local track allows it... point is to have good challenging fun, almost like any video game or sport.
I dont have a fast car, so i usually sit on the benches, eat or drink something and chat with friends or even bring love interests with me (its a GOOD test to see if they can handle me haha).
Its no rocket science really... light light, run, quicker, winner.

 

There is a shop out here in Colorado called SCR Performance, the owner normally races on the weekend. I'm getting involved once I get my car back, it's just a matter of signing up andI think think the requirements are a valid drivers lisense and up-to-date plates, something like that. And it's more autocross and circuit type races.

But you should be able to google some race events in your area. We even have drift events out here a few times in the summer.

 

you can just go to the track on open track days and run.

 

I now have a membership at a local 11 corner circuit near here.

 

I did a lil bracket drag racing this summer with my '99 Eclipse GS-T. It was on an 1/8 mile track. I just pulled up to the gate and paid the fee to get in and that was it basically..It was a frickin blast!
