Had Monty since I got him on Craigslist about 5 years ago. Nothing has ever gone wrong until recently when the 4x4 indicator decided to flash or stay on for no reason. I was afraid while driving it would suddenly change to 4wd or something, but after a week it went away.

Now the indicator is flashing, but only on the front driver side light. Everything else stays dark and i have no idea what this means.

I tried changing the battery because my brother knows cars and he said that was the problem.

$110 later the problem isn't fixed and my brother now says it's probably the alternator or "something"

So here I am asking for real help from people who know what the problem is. Hopefully.

I hope it isn't the alternator but I am not car smart. So any tips you can give me would be great.

 

Can you verify the bulbs on the indicator are working. Do all the lights on the 4X4 indicator light up when you initially start the car?

If they continue to light up you may have a stuck solenoid or vac line loose or a malfunctioning freewheel clutch solenoid.

When was the last time you changed the gear oil in the transfer case?
