Default 1991 SL Speedo going nuts

I bought my car a little bit ago, it's a Right hand drive 1991 SL with about 77k on it, it was imported with 65k and now has 77 but the speedo recently started freaking out when I'm going about 100kph (doesnt work at all from 0-80ish) is it common for this to happen on these cars?

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and how they fixed it before I start replacing sensors, because parts for these cars aren't free

This is what the speedometer does when I'm driving at around 100-110 https://youtu.be/H4uXuu8yuLk

Hello JDM. Funny you posted this question. My 1994 Montero also has been acting up, exactly like yours. My speedo will just stay at "0" for a good 10 minutes of driving, and then suddenly it will pop up and totally feak out......going to 80 mph, then bouncing all the way to 120 MPH, then back to 40, and might stick there for a bit. Sometimes it then calms down and starts showing the correct speed. I have not had time to track down the issue yet, but will post something in the next few months as I have time to tackle it.

Let us know if you find the solution.
