Just bought the car they replaced the Wheel Bearing now it rides quiet and perfect. When i'm driving i got the today i'm driving it and 3rd gear acts up sometimes. When my friend drove the the car he got it up to 80mph ( he had a 5-spd 3000GT 1992) he said the transmission are great. He said it didn't grind or nothing. The clutch and transmission are both new. But when i was driving it home it grinded sometimes in third then. When i got on my street and there was no traffic i very slowly pushed the clutch in and in went into thirdwith no grinding at all. We pulled over and my dad noticed smoke coming from the hood very little. I noticed when i shifted it hard i smelt alittle burning. But the tempature gauges where normal everything was running perfect. We checked the oil was fine but he said he checked the tranmission fluid an said it was almost empty.The clutch and the transmission are both new. But i need help from people that know the car. I'm a good driver at 5-Spd my 2.8l Firebird (which i loved to death was a manual, i grinided it for the first couple try then i got it smooth), this is my first time driving a 3000gt stick is that a factor . But i would like people with good knowledge of these problems , but other than that this car is perfect Thanks.

Well he doesnt actually have transmission fluid. Its gear oil. But yeah fill that up and see if it still grinds.

 

Yeah i was shifting it like it was my Firebird, but the throws are longer then the bird my mistake, nowI can drive it grind free but i'm still going to change the oil a.s.a.p thanks everyone for your help. I guess there is a diffrence between sticks. But my dad checked the oil dipstick and it was full. We added to much oil to it. So i have to start all over again and replace all the fluids.

 

its probably the blocking rings in the transmission. the blocking rings slow down the tranni.
