Bad Motor, need opinion.

Let me start be saying that I'm new to any type of forum. I'm also not that familiar with motors. But I do have a problem that one of you might be able to help me with. I have a 1991 VR4 ( gold exterior)with a bad motor. Except for the motor the car is in great condition (garage kept). It does however have 100,000 miles on it. We love the car but the local dealerestimates the repairs to amount to $5800.00. Is this an accurate estimate? If I decide to sell it as is,wouldanyonebe interested?

Generally, dealer prices are way too expensive and not very accurate. But vr4's were expensive cars...your's probably cost around $50k new. Sothat estimateseems reasonable now, doesn't it? Anyway, yeah, the car has a very complex induction sytem becuase of the bi-turbos. Also, oem parts now come directly from Japan(atleast that's where they should come from). You're just lucky you're transmission didn't go out...that's way more expensive than an engine. I'm sure there would be many people interested in you car, but find out exactly what wrong with it and then advertise it. Or if you know what's wrong with it, just ask around on a dsm forum or 3si forum, there are many. Everyone in the dsm community is very friendly and always willing to help. You may be able to fix the problem yourself and keep your car if you're not ready to part with it.
