well, I don't really know about vr-4's but my base model is REALLY easy to work on. I pulled my tranny in an hour BY MYSELF and put it back in 1.5 hours because I had to change the clutch. I don't mind working on mitsubishi and ford. I hate working on chevys. At least the 3000gt is not like the camaro, which you have to pretty much pull the whole engine to change the spark plugs...

From what I have read and seen, the 300Z's engine bay is much tighter than the 3000gt's.

um... not the 89 or older years, those things are a breez to work, everything is wide open; now the 90 and up yea those are pretty crammed. i guess what i was gettting at is for the 91 year is there any common problems that i should look out for? like sensors or tranny or electrical. i mean obvisoully there are regular tune ups. ohh and does anyone have an FSM for this car and that is willing to send me it.

Your right, I didn't notice you had an 87. The main problems with the 3000's are the ECU caps, transfer case recall, and t belt service.
Mitsu used substandard capacitors on the computer that will start leaking. If not replaced, the leaking cap cause ruin the board. The transfer case has a bad seal, causing the fluid to leak out which will cause a lockup. It is covered under a recall though. The t belt just needs replaced every 60K.

You asked which is the best year, I'm partial to the first generation, but the 99 VR4 is likely the most sought after since it is the last year of production and not alot of them were made.
