Default Big problem

I have a 1995 3000gt automatic. I have a winding noise that i get when im in first gear. I dont get the noise when im in neutral or park and rev the car. The noise goes away as soon as the car shifts into second. My friend is content on telling me that the tranny is going and im going to need another one. I think its just first gear. If someone could shed some light on this for me it would be appreciated. An if i had to do something with the tranny whats a better option rebuild or buying a new one. If i would need a new one where would be a good website to buy from.

Sounds like your 1st gear "band" is foing out. This is not a major repair. Don't let anyone fool you into spending too much money. I would first have it serviced. (Regular Tranny Service) They should drain the fluid, check the seals, and replace the filter. Once they have it opened up, if a seal has blown, they can easily clean it up and replace the band. Blown seals cause the band to slip and wear.
