clutch safety switch

clutch safety switch
Kind of a weird situation. On the clutch pedal, backside is a piece of strap metal that is off set. Does this have anything to do with the clutch switch (I dont see any wires coming from there). I really dont want to bypass the clutch safety switch but more times than not I have to push the clutch pedal down real hard 2 - 3 times before it will let the engine fire. Any ideas? If I need to bypass the switch, can someone tell me how to do it (I may need to do it to see if this is actually the problem or start looking at other things). Just had new transfer case and axles put on, the guy who did it messed up all the vacuum hoses so I am not certain he didnt adjust or mess the switch up.

This information should be in the service manual (that I strongly recommend anyone who is working on their car, have one from the manufacturer, not one you buy at the auto store). This switch was put in there primarily I believe because of the introduction of cruise control, and maybe also to prevent the car starting the car in gear and causing bodily injury. It usually is set up similar to a brake light switch by the pedal linkage. If you have cruise control, I would not recommend that this switch is bypassed. I do not believe that the switch is in the engine compartment or on the transmission, but some things never fail to surprise me. It just may be out of adjustment.
