First car
The 3000gt is a really nice ride, but somewhat expensive to buy and maintain, youll have to consider it runs on premium fuel, insurance is higher, and parts arent cheap for them either.Ive owned eclipses, and the 96 gt I have now.I love the gt,but am planning on selling it simply because ive finished restoring it,and my 50 year old butt is tired of pouring myself into and out of it.Maintenance is key,and BOTH cars required routine maintanance, and Timing belt replacement is a must in either instance.Failure to replace these belts at around 60,000 miles can(and usually will) result in catastrophic engine failure that will cost big bucks to fix.The 3000gt is a 6 cylinder, and the eclipse is typically a 2.0 liter 4 banger.
I suggest you look for a 97 and up Eclipse, enjoy the cheap insurance, and use good old regular gas, move up to the 3000gt later on down the road.....

One more line of thought on the eclipse....The newer ones can have a V-6,or 4 banger,I suggest however that if you decide to go with an Eclipse,or Eagle Talon(Ive had three of both) you stay away from the AWD(All Wheel Drive) and/or turbo ones. While these are definately fast and nice cars, youre getting colse to the maintanance cost of the 3000gt.The Eagle Talon is a carbon copy of the Eclipse, both were made by DSM(Diamond Star Motors) which is(or used to be) a marraige of Chrysler, and Mitsubishi.Youll likely find a better deal on a Talon....
ur totally right on the fact that the eclipse will be cheaper all around. but the thing to remember is that if you buy a mitsubishi it will be instant gratification and will most likely leave you broke in the end if your not lucky. thats just my experience with these cars.
I cant completely agree with the statement that Mitsubishi will leave you broke,Ive owned quite a few cars over the years, and they all can have their pitfalls,Its all going to depend on how it was maintained, driven, and overall taken care of.My worst nightmare was a Cadillac Catera,GM should have been shot for importing this car,I lost about 4 grand on one that had 67000 miles on it,but once again this was a timing belt engine, and the previous owner had no clue concerning the importance of keeping up with normal maintenance.I suspect that Mitsubishis are no more/or less expensive to maintain than any other make providing the owner uses some basic common sense....
