Just remember that it is a 12 year old car. Things will wear out, that is the nature of the beast. If he is fixing the the problem areas, you should be good to go.

I think around late 92 or early 93 they went to a 4 bolt main block. I am not sure if that only pertained to the TT models. You may want to research that further as 4 bolt mains are more durable then 2 bolt mains.

Also in 1994 they went to the OBDII for running diagnostics on the ECU. I think this has caused some problems with after market parts (pertaining to emissions) in states that thoroughly check (inspect) for emissions.
The 91-93 had the OBDI plug instead.

I like the first gen cars better than the 2nd and 3rd gen, mostly because of looks. I like the flip up headlights.
