I own a 1998 3000GT SL 24 Valve DOHC V6. Im thinking of doing an engine swap to take advantage of some quick, cheap much needed horsepower. I threw on some new rims and suspension and some killer subs and because of that the car is even heavier than it was.
It seems to me that my engine is the twin of the 6g72 TT that came in the VR4. Now I understand that there may be some minor issues I may have to tweak to get that engine to work but other than that I'd like to know if it will work with the current auto trans. I dont really have the cash to go all wheel drive and adda 6 speed manual trans right now. The reason I want this engine is because it supposedly uses the same mounts and ecu and will also be easy to add a driveshaft and rear axel to make this thing AWD later. Can it be done and what problems will I run into?

Yes, the 6g72TT engine will fit with minimal hassle. 3 of the 4 engine mounts are the same, the front engine mount is a little different. The ECU's are not the same. The TT ECU will not communicate with the the TCU, but people have done the swap with an auto tranny. As far as I know, they have to shift through the gears manually. No, it will not be easy to add the rear subframe from a VR4.

If you want the HP, just buy a Super Charger for the N/A, or Lower the Compression and TT it. FWD is fine if you get a LSD. Or you could go buck wild and Big Single it. You would have to get new Pistons and rebuild the heads to get the Compression down, but with a Big single a FWD 3k turns into a freeway Monster.
