Intrax or Coil-Overs?
I own a 99 vr4 and am looking to finally lower the car...as you all know the 98 and 99's have an unusual suspension set up....Ive done plenty of searching and am facing these two directions...should i go with intrax springs or coil-overs...things to consider is my car is all stock and is not used for racing etc...rarely driven and never sees the clouds...the intrax set ups i have read about calls for replacing the non ecs struts and mounts and also the rear control armsin order for the springs to work...all said and done could be reaching $600-$700i have not done the math on this....I have also recently learned that the intrax springs will work without replacing the ecs struts and mounts if you use twin turbo springs up front and N/A springs on the rears...althought i would have to cut off the "stops"....the other direction is to use coil-overs where cost becomes significantly higher....i have heard few of you use the ground control coil overs which are much less expensive and others use ksports and so on..i would like to get some thoughts from the forum on which way i should go...and if i go with coil overs what else wouldi need to replace?
I think you are making this harder then it really is LOL. I had a 98 vr4 with KYB shocks/struts and Intrax springs. I pulled them directly off of my 94 Stealth TT. So you will need the replacement rear shocks for a TT with ECS and the upper shock mounts (they may even be the same).
But, for the money (since you can't buy Intrax springs anymore) of buying the springs and shocks and struts, you can get a decent set of megan racing coilovers. The ride will be harsher then just lowering it, but you have a ton of adjustability.
