low oil pressure

low oil pressure
I have a 95 3kgt base model, and I noticed while driving that the oil pressure needle hangs about one quarter or less up the guage while idling. When driving it gets up to just above the larger mark. Is this normal, or should the needle be between the two large ticks at all times. Thanks.

RE: low oil pressure
my guess is that it's fine, i have a '96 base model. mine is doing the same exact thing. i took it to a local shop and they said that it isn't a problem and that it's pretty much normal for the 3kgt since he has a '95 model too and it's doing the same exact thing.

I wouldn't change the sender out just yet. Does it ever drop to zero? Does the oil light ever come on? Does it have erratic behaviour?
At idle, the oil gauge in many of these cars do read low, but like most cars, the factory oil guages are not much better than idiot lights, to slow to inform you of impending doom.
I wouldn't worry about it too much, if this has been the norm since you've owned the car.

RE: low oil pressure
thats exactly how ALL oil pumps on all engines operate.
oil pressure is in direct relation to engine speed. It also says that in your owners manual (you know, the thing thats probably still wrapped in celophane in your glove box).
