I just bought a Mitsubishi 3000GT SL two days ago used and it has 108000 miles on it yesterday the fifth gear blew out the side of the transmission. It is pretty crazy in that the side of the casing is gone and there is a window that the fluid comes out. The reason being is that I found a used VR4 transmission with 160000 miles on it and they want 700 bucks for it and I was wondering two things, first if it would even fit on my car and second do you think this would be a good idea in buying the transmission.

 

O i forgot my car is a 1994 and the VR4 transmission is from a 1992 VR4

 

you cant use it. The VR4 is AWD and the SL is not. Seems like $700 is alot of money for a tranny with 160k on it to me. We are talking about mitsu drivetrain parts which dont ever last.

Unless this is a getrag 6 speed VR4 tranny which I dont think was avail until 95 but I might be wrong (that wony fit your car either though)

 

you need a fwd trans. AWD will not work in your car, and has different gearing that will make your car feel like a dog. I have a few 5spd fwd transmissions. $700. e-mail me if you are interested. ECoppola@gmail.com
