Default Stalling... Loose Throttle Cable?? Pls help…

Hey everyone...
I just finished a 1200 mile trip in mymanual '96 GT and when I reached my final destination my GT has begun to stall any time that I lift my foot off the gas and will not start unless I hold down the throttle. I checked the throttle cable and it seems to be looser than I remember and it does not tighten up when the car is started. I can however get the car started and running by applying a little pressure to the throttle cable, but as soon as I let go the car dies....

Thus I am pretty sure that is my problem....

1. How does one go about tightening the cable? Mine runs into what looks like a silver electronic control box and I don't want to mess with it until I get some more Info.

2. Is this or does this seem like a common problem with an older GT?
