Just curious if this sounds like a good deal. The price seems to be fairly average for the local market, and is near KBB's value (7,000).

Its a '93 SL, 66k miles, stock as far as I can tell. It has leather which I think may have been standard for the SL's of that year.
I think the car may be modded but when I looked under the hood I couldn't tell....

I wasn't looking to buy a 3000GT, but when I drove it at the dealership I fell in love. I've heard bad things about the NA 3000GT's in terms of performance, but when I put the gas down the thing laid a good 4 feet of rubber. Now this is what confuses me....

I've read that these cars are FWD, except for the VR4, but when these tires broke loose I could have sworn it was the back tires. Were these cars RWD in '93? Are there any common mods I can visually see just from popping the hood, or anything I can check easily?

Now, this is going to sound stupid but I'm not 100% sure that this car is not a VR4. I've never owned a turbo'd car before, the dealer didn't know what model it was, and while I can usually spot a turbo visually I can't find them on pics of the engine bays of other VR4's. Is there any way to find out for sure.

I've got to wonder as I read that this car averages mid 15's in the quarter stock, and thats about what I was getting in my last car (sentra spec-v). I don't see how that can be possible as this car definatly FELT a lot faster.

it's front wheel drive, or all wheel drive. they didn't make rear wheel drive cars.

your dealer can't tell what model it is? find a different sales person at the dealership. the one you have is an idiot, or new, or both.

you should be able to see the turbo when you open the hood.

Does sound too good to be true...You should be able to see the Y-pipe to the left of the plenum, that'll be a total tip-off.

 

I think that's too expensive for a 93 , especially only an SL. I bought my 99 SL with less than 60k for $10k. You'd have to do the 60,000 mile service as soon as you buy it too, for another $1400 or so, so add that onto the cost of the car. Maybe do a little haggling with the price about the 60k.

The SLs are not slow. Yes, they're slow compared to the VR4, but they are not slow loser cars. I love mine, and I've had both Vr4s and SLs.
