There aren't any "plain" repair manuals. The factory service manual is all there is. If you don't want to pay 3sx prices for a hard copy, sometimes you can find CD versions on Ebay for quite a bit cheaper.

i have a story, YAY
about a month after i bought my '93 SL auto (bought it for $1950,AWESOME DEAL for being in the great condition it was in)
i was drivin down the interstate not too fast
and noticed the car sort of like stuttered
it was actually stuck in 3rd gear
so i got to work shifted through the gears (1,2,D,N,R,P)
in drive it would just be stuck in 3rd
i ended up replacing the transmission(cost me like $2300 ouch but i just love the car)
but after the installation i found out it was not the transmission but the computer that had screwed up,
so isentthe compydown to florida to get it rebuilt
they even tested it in a 3000gt down there before sending it back up to me
i forget the name of the place that rebuilt the compy
but the car worked fine once i got my compy back in there
