I was wondering what the difference is between the 18 spline and 25 spline vr4 transfer case. i am getting a 93 vr4 and i need to put a new tranfer case on it and need to know which one to get. thanks.

 

You will most likely need a 25 spline transfer case. There is a shaft that connects from the transmission to the transfercase. This is called the output shaft. The splines on either end, and the diamater of the shaft, differ from the 18 to 25. The 25 spline transfer case, has an input spool (where the output shaft from the transmission gets inserted), with 25 splines. The splines on the shaft and spool need to correlate with each other, in order to fit together.

Also, the 6spd transmissions in the 94+ models had a 25 spline transfercase as well. HOWEVER, they will not work together. Just a note of caution.

If you still care about the transfer case question, depending on your gearbox you're probably stuck with one or the other, they're not interchangeable obv.

Like GirlyVR4 said, you're probably gonna need a 25spline one since you have a 93. The good news is that the 5speed 25spline gearbox seems to be the most desired one because of the gearing and its just as strong as the legendary Getrag 6speed they put in the cars after 93.
