Default VR4 transmission curiosity

I've heard several horror stories about the vr4 having weak transmissions that break and other driveline parts, but i thought it had a Getrag transmission? the same that's in the Supra's which as far as i can find are almost indestructible. anyone with any information please tell me im debating on a few cars as my next and id like to know as much about these as i can find out.

They really only have problems when the owners don't know how to drive, or don't maintain them properly (fluid changes), or when you're drag racing over and over and over again, pushing 800hp or something silly.

i see, so aside from proper and routine maintenance are the transmissions fairly strong? and also Ive head they use an electronic suspension? that has something to do with the power steering as well? im not to sure on that since im not all that knowledgeable on these cars but id like to know if its possible to switch suspension components (lowering springs etc) with out it screwing anything else up on the car electronically that is

The VR4's had electronically controlled suspension up until mid 95. They also have All Wheel Steering. Two completely different systems though.

You can add lowering springs, however, it will cause the suspension to to blow out more quickly.

Most people ditch the electronic suspension and just upgrade to coilovers now.

good to know so 96 and up i wouldn't have to worry about the electronic suspension, right now im debating on a vr4 or an evo, kind of leaning towards the evo, although i do like the appeal of the vr4
