2001 Diamante Brake Pads
Hello. My name is Jason and I am new here, as you can probably tell by my posts. I own a 2001 Mitsubishi Diamate LS. I always got all maintenance done on it through a mechanic, but recently started to do my own work. I need to replace my front pads and wanted to get some advice on the brands. Here is the list I am considering.
Akebono
NPN
PBR
Advics-Sumi
Sumitomo
The last 2 are advertised to be OEM Quality. Any advice? Thank y

Hi,
Welcome aboard. I'm also weekend warrior when it comes to mechanics. I have saved alot of money by doing things on my own. Gain massive amount of knowledge through this forum. Many knowledgable members that have helped me out alot.
Wondering how many miles on your car and how many previous brake jobs have been done to this point?
I currently have 80,000 on my 02 LS. On my 3rd set of brakes. I'm averaging 30,000 miles each set. I have been installing organic Pads and basic Rotors. My dad has a 01 LS. He averages about the same miles on his. The last set I installed I put on Ceramic OEM Pads and OEM Drilled Rotors. The good thing I like about Ceramic is the very low dust build up on the rims. The bad things they seem to take one, or two good stops to warm-up and grab. Not sure if thats the pads, or rotors, or both.
The next set of brakes I buy are going to be Ceramic pads because I love the Low-dust bennefit and don't care either way on the Drilled, or standard rotors.
My recomendations........
Everything should be OEM. I would definitly due some research and wait to see if you receive more advice. Click on this link to one of my earlier posts re: the same question you have. That might also help. Pay attention to the torque spec in that post.
Hoped this helped a little.

hey jason, and welcome...
my first question would be "How hard do you drive the car... do you often tow trailers, or have heavy loads...?"
if yes, then an above OEM spec is better suited, oem is just what the manufacturer would put on the car... designed for luxury... long slow easy braking, and maximum length of operation.
if you have a heavy foot, brake late and hard, or carry and/or tow it may be better to look for a more uprated version. PBR do excellent ranges, without getting to pricey... and they have lots of racing backed experience. also bendix for a more 'high performance' pad.
be careful if selecting a higher performance pad, as sometimes if you go too high performance, the pads will need to be heated and 'squeal' under normal use
snoops

I don't tow anything and I don't brake very heavily, so that shouldn't be a problem. I just remember getting some cheap pads for my Maxima years back and they lasted 3 months. I don't want to go that route again. Would rather get something better, but just to last, not to be any kind of performance thing. So both Advics-Sumi and Sumitomo are advertised as OEM Quality. Any suggestion on which ones I should get?

Re: Website
Hey,
I notice no one has posted anything regarding the website. I'm not going to comment because, I'm not qualified to compare brakes. Not sure how soon you need to replace the brakes. If still not sure on what to buy. I would continue to research different brakes for pricing and specs. The only thing I can telll you is keeping asking around. You might get an answer your looking for. Whatever you come up with, let us know what you bought and how they are working out.
Good Luck!
