Car cut off while driving ( PS belt broken)

Default Car cut off while driving ( PS belt broken)

97 Diamante cut off while driving on expressway...car just suddenly lost power and steering was gone....after getting to the side of the hwy i noticed the PS belt was melted on to the crankshaft.The alternator belt was still intact....when tryin to crank the car back up the starter just spins and will not engage.... Is it possible my belt broke and I need a starter at the same time or is it something else...I checked all fuses , battery is good also...Im lost....please help asap need car for work.

Check the crank pulley it may have seperated.

more likely parts of the belt got behind the timming covers and made the timming belt jump and messed up the engine. that is a no tolerance motor, one tooth off in the timming and engine damage will occur
