Diamante/Magna transmission options.. chassis codes
Hey guys, I'm Taj I'm from Utah.. I've always been a mitsubishi guy, I rent my own shop space I work on cars and bikes.. long mitsu history, I've got a '94 Stealth R/T TT and an '89 Conquest Tsi right now...
I've got an '01 Diamante 3.5L car with a bad transmission. So, U.S. got the 4-speed auto and some 5-speed auto optioned Diamante cars huh. I know the equal version of the Mitsubishi Magna in Australia had a performance version available, and a manual transmission option in this generation of cars.
After doings some research, i became fixed on the idea of a 6-speed manual swap out of an 02-08 Hyundai Tiburon GT. Those cars use the delta engine 2.7L which is just licensed Mitsubishi and the engine is on the same side as the Diamante.
I've found a full Tiburon GT manual trans swap I can get from a salvage yard. That's where I'm at and ready to take on the task, never heard it done before manual in a Diamante but I think most will bolt up, axles can be figured out maybe hybrid of the two. I don't know about things like pedal box and shifter assembly mounting yet. I would be interested to know more about how the two chassis were designed and while the Tiburon is a different platform car and built in S. Korea instead of Australia.. (just hoping some basic engineering language of the time would be close enough between the two and require minimal mods, more similar to any 'ordinary' auto to manual swap).
Also if the time comes and questions still there.. talking to a master mitsu tech / computer expert to learn more about things like (possible EPROM modification? check a box, ECU no longer thinks it's an auto?)
Would love to hear some feedback, I had reached out to one individual in Australia about Magna info/ searching for manual trans Magna parts and I never heard back..
