Default Idle speed

Hey guys just wondering what the normal idle speed for a 1996 diamante automatic should be?
Mechanic turned it down said it was high but now it stalls when its cold. When engine is warm and in park the idle is about 1400 - 1500rpm and when I shift to drive it is about 800 - 900rpm.

Thanks

Default RE: Idle speed

If it's any help, my 97 idles at 1100 in park with the engine warm and 700-900 in drive. I have issues with it feeling like it's going to stall when I've been driving on the freeway for 10+ minutes and come to a stop when i get off. It's never actually stalled though.

The stalling after low driving on highways sounds like the egr valve sticking open. When its stuck open it'll make the car want to stall.
