Default Alternator Issues

I recently purchased a '97 Eclipse Spyder GS and had no electrical issues. About a week ago my alternator started going out, so i replaced it and my battery. I had no issues until my battery drained and my car no longer ran because of a lack of electricity. I had the new alternator tested and the built in voltage regulator was bad. I replaced it again yesterday and had it tested again and the voltage regulator failed again. I checked all of my fuses and they are all fine. My question is could I have just been unlucky enough to get two NEW alternators with the same problem or is there something else causing the voltage regulator to go out immediately?
