I bought a used 2008 that came with only a valet key. There is no interor button or switch to open it and nothing I can find on the rear hatch such as a key swich. I have ordered a couple of keys with the door unlock buttons from the dealer, is there a rear hatch button on these?

Depending on what model you got, some hatch won't open and some will (SE). As far as your key goes, it will probably only have what mine has: Lock, Unlock, and panic button. If you don't have the two original keys, you won't be able to program the keys so that you won't be able to start the car with the spares.

 

the glass will not open on the 08s. Only the hatch, via the handle.

 

It may be that it is not designed to open,however it seems odd as the glass has its own separate hinges and the wiring to the defrost is coiled, so looks designed to be opened. Seems odd that they would spend the extra money on these items for nothing. However this may be. If so, Anyone know what parts I need to "hack" this?

 

you will need to drill or replace the glass and add shocks and a handle

the parts were used until phased out totally.
there was no "extra money" spent on them, as they originally did open from 04 to 07. But then mitsu realized exactly how stupid a feature it was, and stopped installing it.

if you do get the glass to open (and you can, manually), you will tear the defroster tabs off the glass depending on the production date.

 

Mine must have been an early production date if they built them as you believe. Mine has the coiled defrost wiring so the tabs do not get ripped off, and of courseit has the hinges.
