2004 Endeavor automatic transmission problems

2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor Transmission
I have the 2004 Endeavor XLS AWD. About 3 years ago with a bit over 100K miles, the transmission started having issues similar to what you describe. Ultimately, I had the transmission rebuilt with new automatic clutches and a Torque Converter. This cost approximately $3600, but was far cheaper than a new one which I was quoted by both a dealer and independent mechanic of about $6000. When I got it back, the transmission was like new. Nice and tight, immediate response and it still functions well. Only complaint I have is that when you are up to speed, especially in city driving, and let up on the gas pedal, there is a "whine" when the engine brake kicks in, but the whine is definitely a small sound that was not there with the original transmission. I took it back to the shop who repaired it and they couldn't hear it or didn't know what it was. To satisfy me, they upped the warranty from 12 months to 36 months for peace of mind. Nothing has happened, but I still can't figure out what the noise is from. Bit the rebuild was completed well and functions well. If anyone knows what the sound is, please let me know.
