Default 2004 Endeavor AWD miles per gallon

For anybody that has an AWD endeavor what do you get for mileage? I get 16 MPG with mine. Doesn`t matter local or highway, it`s still the same.

2004 W/AWD ...best I ever got was 20 highway. What's the secret if you've gotten more?

2004 AWD - I'm averaging about 20mpg, made 23mpg on hilly highway yesterday, no AC, can do 25 on straight road not going too fast. back in the gravel-road village I get no more than 16mpg (going slow, around 20mph)
No tricks, google "fuel efficient driving": look ahead and let it roll, i.e. don't erratically step on gas and brakes, don't accelerate too fast like you are drag racing, anything over 60mph ridiculously eats up gas in any SUV (think of the wind resistance of a UPS-truck) while going too slow is a waste of gas as well (like using 200hp to go 15mph ;-) , AC takes at least 2mpg off, tire pressure is a factor, and of course your system - is your check-engine-light on? any codes and faults which prohibit the system to run economically? oh and are you using premium gas?

Yes I use high test. The most I ever got was 20 mpg highway. I dont even check anymore. I have abot 110k miles on my 04. If I had money for a newer SUV I would get rid of the Endeavor. It has served us well over the years though. It has querky issues. The famous air conditioner leak into the drivers side floor was a nightmare but I fixed that myself with the aid of this forum. Also the high pitch noise from the $800 drive shaft. Rattling front brake calipers are really annoying too. Ive had them rebuilt and replaced but the noises come back.
