2004 Endeavor Won't Go INTO Park
This is an 04 Endeavor Limited AWD. It will not go into park.
I went to the grocery store yesterday and when I went to put it in park and shut it off it wouldn't go into park.
I've seen tons pf posts/information about keys being stuck in and not wanting to shift out of park and all that but that's not what this is doing.
It just refuses to go into park. Other that this every other shifting option works fine. I just bought this Endeavor 2 months ago. It has 57,000 miles on it.
Can anyone please help me out with this? Do you know what might be wrong with it?
Thank you very much in advance for any help you can be.

When you step on brake pedal, do you 'feel' any movement in the handle? It will be subtle.

Hi again. Thank you for the replies.
whilst01: I went out and checked to see if it could possibly be the plunger, but that's not it. Because I've been parking it in neutral with the parking brake on and you still have to use the trigger to put it into reverse at least from neutral and that's working fine.
One thing that i forgot to mention is that this thing has remote start so I think that has something to do with being able to put in or take the key out differently than if it didn't have it. When you use the remote start when you go out and get in it to drive you put the key in and turn it to run, if you forget when you hit the brake the engine shuts off automatically. I'm not sure how this relates to people having similar problems to this where they're stuck in park rather than my problem of not being able to go into park.
Anyway, I saw that there's a recall for the interlock for these. Do you know if I can still get it fixed for free through Mitsubishi?
I found this thing on Craigslist in Atlantic City. I paid $4500 for it plus my plane ticket to go get it but I think it was worth it because I really like these Endeavors.
Thank you for the help.

Not the remote start. That's electronic.
The 'plunger' and brake interlock are pure mechanical. I too had the same problem. Mitsu has a 'kit', that takes care of this problem. Involves removing console trim and getting to shift mechanism.
Been awhile since I did this, aboput an hour or so for me.
That cxable can go 'over center' as it were, and I believe that's your problem. It was forced at some point.
Mine would go through all gears except: Park.
Call Mitsubishi USA, give them your VIN.
Best.
