2006 endeavor timing belt change
I took my 2006 endeavor in to have the timing belt changed this morning including the two tensioners. I was told that i should have the water pump ($60.00) replaced and the actuator ($270.00) for the timing belt replaced. The last couple of weeks I read on this forum and other sources that the endeavor water pumps are pretty good and usually do not have to be replaced when changing the timing belt. I declined to have those changed. The mechanic basically said that it was preventive maintenace " in case it should fail" since the labor invovled in taking everything apart and i would be just paying for the parts - so just curious - is that an upsell? or just duing due dillegence on their part?
It is common practice to replace the water pump once the timing belt is replaced. It is not an upsell. Also, it is a common practice that every other timing belt replacement, the pulleys, or if preferred only the idler pulley should be done as well.
