How does the Endeavor do towing?
Hey all, I am thinking of buying a slightly used 2005 Endeavor. I will be pulling a boat a lot with it that weighs about 2400 lbs. I was wondering if the V6 has enough power to pull it down the interstate at 75 mph. Also, is their a tow package available that has a transmission cooler and a different gear ratio or is it just a trailer hitch and harness? How bad of a hit does the gas mileage take a hit pulling a trailer? Thanks for thoughts and opinions.
The Endeavor only has a 4 speed transmission... which wouldn't be my first choice for a SUV towing 2500 lbs plus it's own 4000 lbs. Fuel economy and performance both suffer due to this...although you can manually shift it to choose your own gear which is a good thing. Another concern I would have is it being FWD...when you try to pull your boat up the launch ramp, all the weight is on the rear wheels...little traction to the drive wheels. If you opt for AWD, fuel economy and performance will be slightly worse, but it should make it more comfortable to pull a ton of boat out of the water. The reviews are good for the Endeavor's driving ability, but for towing on a regular basis I would be cautious. Mitsubishi is supposed to be working on a 5 speed transmission to be transplanted from the Eclipse into the Endeavor for 2007. We'll have to wait and see.
