Really bad gas mileage
Hi everyone, does anyone have any ideas on improving gas mileage for an '05 Endeavor? I'm getting 16.1 city and 16.3 highway!!! It has plenty of power,I run premium in it and do regular oil changes using synthetic oil, etc.I don't abuse this suv, actually it is one of the better vehicles I've owned, but the fuel issue is really bugging me.Dealership says there's nothing wrong and this is what I'm supposed to be getting as it's a "performance" suv.I was thinking about a K&N air filter. Is the fuel chip a learning one?and can it be reset? I ask as I'm not the 1st owner and don't know how the previous person drove it. Any help would be appreciated...thanks,Dave

16 is about right. maybe 20 on the highway, if you're not a leadfoot.
theres nothing any driver can do to it to make it "learn" to use excess fuel, etc.
if you actually burning more fuel than you should, you would have a "check engine" light on.
you may try different brands of fuel, to make sure you're not getting excessive amounts of alcohol (or other liquid) in it. Also, if you live in a cold state, your milage will drop in the winter as much as 10-20 percent.
fuel quality is usually a major culprit in poor milage. Just because you're using "premium" doesnt mean its a good brand.
