Wow this is the first time i read this for some reason. I always love a good argument. Manybrews, so you are saying that if someone broke a t-case on it and then had mods like emonz has (mostly bolt on), put it all back to stock and brought it in. The mechanic would look everywhere trying to find modifications on it, or any trace of it. Cuz personally i think all i would do is the usual, look at the exhaust to make sure there is a cat and then look in the engine bay. If everything apears stock then i wouldnt look any further for "traces of tampering"

Give you an example. NEVER in 15 years of fixing mitsus have I had a piston "fail". One day, about 3 years ago, some young guy came in with a lot of engine knock on his 03 V6 eclipse.
it was fishy right away, because the intake was clean as a whistle, but the engine was filthy. we got an okay to tear it down, as we told the customer if its warrantable mitsu will cover it.
I pull the engine apart and found 5 cracked pistons. Since that is pretty much an impossibility on a stock engine, I examined the intake a bit more. I found the large hole drilled in the bulkhead.. I found the bottle mount holes in the trunk... I found all the traces of nitrous, but yet it was removed. Hmmm.
turns out the kid came clean in the end, saying it started knocking after his 100 shot on the track. although mitsu didnt cover the repair, his honesty DID get him a free teardown as he was going to be charged for the 6 hours of labor that was into the car already. Because he did admit to it (which most nitwits never do), mitsu agreed to eat the 6 hours even though the failure had nothing at all to do with mitsus product.
ultimatly, your modifications can cost you your warranty. In an event like that, it will be a very expensive out of pocket cost.
thats why Ive always wondered why people modify their car when its under warranty! Half the reason for buying a new car is to not worry about it, and now with the 100K warranty its like heaven for most.
buy to each his/her own.

im saying that transfer cases dont fail, and if they do have some type of catastophic failure, 99 percent of the time it will be from modification of abuse.

I cannot believe that anyone exists today on our planet and still thinks that this type of thinking is okay. Apparently you've never been to a city with more than 2000 people. Ever been to L.A? any basin town? most major cities are not healthy to breath the air in. Better yet, try a country where there are no clean air standards. gross.
you think your car is clean? its not. all those devices were installed because the evo is a dirty car to begin with.
Also, it has been proven time and time again by every manufacturer on the planet that you can go fast without polluting. I have never understood why the first thing people do to "mod" their cars is remove the emission equipment.
you can get plenty of power without that.
yeah, Im sure its clean as a whistle. Tell you what, try running an IM240 test. Then you can tell me to shut my yap.
until then I will disagree strongly with many of the modifications people do which Im allowed to do.
there are worse things to worry about in the world polution wise and otherwise than a car with no CAT or emmsions control

you can have no pitty on me I have no cat, and I tuned my EVO which actually saved me gas milage I get 70-100 miles to a tank now and still runs very safe AFRs lol

Ps ^^^ this is completely off the warrenty thing. I agree with you mostly on the warrenty subject.

ManyBrews, you said it crystal clear. Your modifications "can" cost your warranty but it doesn't mean it always will cost your warranty. In fact, I recently talked to the Mitsubishi tech where I'm at and he "told" me, in the event of a problem with my Evo, they would "NOT" void my warrant with my current mods unless they were %100 sure it caused the failure. To me it looks as though it depends on the dealer. By the way, your story above with the shot of nitrous is pretty extreme and it was obvious it caused the failure....

once a person starts, it usually doesnt stop.
but to each their own. I like my diamante stock. it now has 198000 miles on it with EVERY driveline part bone stock original. it starts, runs great, zips me down the road at 80MPH all day long in silence, and gets 25 MPG doing it.
of course, a diamante isnt usually a candidate for "mods".
Not too bad for diamante. I have a 1993 Toyota Pickup with 298,000 mi on it. Runs like a champ!! Unfortunately I doubt my Evo will see past 150,000 mi with the mods I have but it will be much more exciting than the truck!!

oh, sure.. Im not saying a muffler is gonna cost you a warranty. But I am warning that constant modifying can lead to loss of it.

Can the dealer deny the warranty on a stock evo mr if it's on the 2nd or 3rd owner? i've heard the warranty is only good for the 1st owner but that doesn't sound right.
