120 AMP fuse off + battery terminal
I have a 2000 Galant V6. The 120 AMP fuse and the fuse holderthat is conntectedto the + battery terminal melted. What could possibly be the cause? The alternator tested good.
I couldn't find a universal 120 AMP fuse holder. So I'm thinking aboutputting in a 120 AMP circuit breaker, http://www.powerwerx.com/product.asp?ProdID=35878. Theoreticallyit should work, butam I overlooking anything? What do you guys think?
The dealer was giving me a hard timeabout it and wanted $29for the fuse holder, which is that same cost as the circuit breaker. Plus, with the circuit breakerI'll never have to buy a fuse again or get stranded.

RE: 120 AMP fuse off + battery terminal
Your picture lookslike adifferent fuseholderand holds a different style of fuse than the one I have. Take a look atmy attach picture and let me know if the one you have will stillwork in my car.
Thanks

my friends neighbor didn't know he had shorted his alternator to ground(the cars frame) with his wrench as he was replacing the belt that drives it. car would start but after a few miles of driving car began to idle funny and battery and brake light would light up and go away as you played around with the gas pedal, but would end up shutting down. he asked me if i could help him why his alternator wasnt charging his battery. i volt meter the battery while running, it was about 11.87v.far below what it should be 13.5-14v.so started to look for what could be the problem.belt was tight, but not to far was the melted fusible link connect to the positive(+) of the battery post. fusible link is 120amp. bought a new one part# MN164188 for $17 fixed the problem.AND THATS ONE REASON WHY YOU DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE(-) SIDE OF THE BATTERY WHILE WORKING ON YOUR CAR.he said he forgot to do that. car was a 2003 galant 4 cylinder.
