Default 1996 Galant Starter problem

Hi,

I am having what I believe is an issue with my starter on my 96 Mitsubishi Galant S. Once every few days when I turn the car on all I get is a click. After 2 or 3 tries it finally starts. The problem has been getting worse and happening more frequently.

I believe the issue is the starter, but I'm having a hard time finding it. I think it is directly behind the engine, under the intake manifold, but I'm not entirely sure.

Has anyone replaced a starter on a 96 Galant? If so, any tips or tricks that might make it easier for me?

Thanks!

before you do that, replace the electrical part of the ignition switch. yes, the starter is under the intake, much eaisier to take out from the bottom side. for every 1 starter i have replaced on that model of galant, i replaced a 100 of those switches. just a little FYI.

I replaced the battery and the terminal wires at the same time (I should have done them separately maybe to really find out what the problem was), and the problem seems to have gone away.

I believe the problem was the wires, because they were very corroded and rusty. The screw to the negative wire clamp actually rusted off as I was trying to get the battery off.
