Default 2003 Galant alternator / voltage regulator

Hi everyone I'm new here. I have a 03 Galant with a 4 Cylinder engine dont know if its an ES or DS or whatever, but its basic.

Anyway it wouldn't start so I had to get a jump, and a trip to Autozone revealed that I needed a battery and alternator. I went home and got online and saw that a particular shop sells the voltage regulator separate from the alternator and I was wondering if its a viable solution. I was looking over the techs back when he checked the alternator and saw that the diode passed and the regulator failed as well as the battery.

this is the wife's car and I have never worked on it before, but i figured it cant exactly be rocket science to change out. Or could it?

You can get the regulator separate & rip the alternator apart but its easier & faster to just change the alternator as a whole. Also double check the connections & power lead to make sure they are free of corrosion
