Default 8g (1999-2003) Galant Reliability?

Hello everybody, first time posting here:

From reading through the forum at www.mitsubishi-forums.com it seems like there are a lot of problems with 8G Galants. I was seeing fairly low mileage in these posts, like 45k-75k miles. Seems like a lot of brakes, transmissions (only Mitsu fluid??), hesitation, and stalling.

My '02 ES is leased and is due in Feb. I was thinking about buying it, but I don't want to buy something that is constantly having problems. It only has 39k miles on it now, and the only problem I've had was a bad heater control motor. I was going to drive this for as long as it kept going, and was thinking at least mid 100k, but it sounds like they start having a lot of issues between 60k-100k miles.

How reliable is this car once it gets to higher mileages?

I also have 99 galant. I baught it when it was 71000. only problem I had since i baught is I had to change radiator and it suffers from electrical problem. High beem does not work. But other than that it is very reliable. Fuel economy is 25 mpg when I drive smoothly. no other problems. Only electrical but its not a big deal.

What happened with your radiator? And why did the high beams stop working?

Maybe it's mostly people that are having problems posting here, and the people that aren't having problems aren't posting?

Only problem I have ever had was with my rotors and I fixed that by going aftermarket. The stock rotors warp real fast. In fact in NYC they where so bad the filed a lemon against Mitsubishi.

For the high beams someone told me that it is happening because of my new radio. I went to shop where radio was installed they said its something else. May be a fuse box or something. I was looking for fuse box and did not find it so I just stopped looking for it. Coz i dont use high beams anyway. No reason to spend money. About radiator it was leaking so I just replaced it. Nothing else I spent mony on. So it is really a good car.

Open your drivers side and look at the dash. You will see a handle on the side of the dash. Pull on that and you will see the fuses....
