Default Need Some Help

Ok I did install the Brake Light Switch properly :-) saved myself 80 bucks in labor. Next problem I want to head to the shop but as alwyas I like to have an idea of what going on so I won't get duked because I ama woman. enough said here is the problem:

I started my 98 Galant up to go to work this morning. The tightness that I felt the night before on the brake pedal seem to be gone. When I started the brake pedal did go down about 1/4th of an inch as it should so I proceeded to drive. It was fine for about 5 min. then I noticed the brake pedal became a little more harder to actually push down. The car would brake but the pedal wouldn't go down. I drive about 2 miles and I felt it just wasn't driving right. When I took my foot off the gas it almost acted as if it wanted to cut off. It continued to do this for another half mile or less then I started smelling something burning and I looked and there was smoke coming from both front wheels by this point the brakes felt like they was locking up or something. I had the front brakes repaired on March 17, 2010. So guys what do you think this could be?

I have been reading and for so far have come up with a possible bad booster, caliper, or vacuum, master cylinder

How much should I expect to pay rough range please?
