Default Suspension and Power Mods

Just bought a sweet 2001 GTZ (Patriot Red). I am interested in modifying the suspension. Probably go with a coilover kit. Anybody have any experiences with the different products available? Any work better than others. I've heard KONI makes a quality product. Expensive though. I also want to crank up the HP's and Torque by about 30 each. I've heard an ECU (chip) flash is reasonably priced and will produce the numbers I am looking for. Anyone know how to go about this? Any other ideas? (BTW - This will all be done on a tight budget) Any info / advice is appreciated. - Brian

First doing a JET chip should be the last thing you do because when you send in your ECU they will need to modifiy it to what mods. you have now. If you are planning to add more performance to your car then you will have to send in the ECU again and get it reflashed. So do what performance mods you want and when you are done do the JET Chip.

If you are wanting to go with a coilover kit I will suggest either the Ground Control or Skunk2. I have sold the cheaper Drop Zone and all I can say is you pay for what you get. You also have a choice of a Tein Set Up if you would like but then you talking major dollars. I might suggest maybe springs. Ride will be better compared to coilovers but not as good as stock.

Now Koni does not make a coil over kit but I think you might have meant shocks. If you want good cheap shocks I would suggest the KYB GR-2. Let me know if you need anymore help with your Galant.

Personally I recommend against coilovers, unless you get the full coilover combo's like something like the jic's and so forth, but those are really expensive, you can definetly benefit from regular coil springs, and a matched strut/shock combo. That will give you great handling, and a nice mean look, I will post pictures on my site, i have the same username and there you will see my car on 19's with teins.

Im looking to put a tien SS coilover on my 2001 galant V6, the kit is made for the 200+ Eclipse V6. Does anyone know if it is bolt on or are there a lot of mods to make. Or would i be better off goin with shocks and springs instead.

They will match up just fine. The 3G Eclipse and the 8G Galant are the same suspension.
