Default Transmission failure

Hi,

Sorry for another post on what seems to be a common problem but would appreciate any help. I have a problem with the transmission on my 1999 V6 Auto Galant where i have no drive in any gear. When i shift into gear i just get a fluctuating whining/whirring noise. The failure happened suddenly at about 40mph after a long drive of 350 miles or so.

The lever is moving on the top of the torque converter ok and i have checked the fluid and it seems fine.

Mitsubishi tell me that if it is the torque converter it will need a whole new gearbox which will cost more than the cars worth. What really annoys me is that the gear box failed at 55k and was replaced under warranty and appears to have now gone again only 44k later at 99k.

Thanks,

if the torque converter splines striped, which can happen on that vehicle there would be no noise in any gear. the noise that you hear indicates a severe internal failure. new trans will run you around 5K. used one will run you between 800 and 1,000.
