1986 lancer in Costa Rica
I'm looking at a carburated 1986 lancer station wagon, 5spd. Also an '88 'wagon that looks the same but labeled "colt", both mitsubishi. The '88 is injected. I drove the 86 today and it ran great but the front end steered hard and seemed to have too much toe out-hence the hard steering. The rack seemed to be a little loose in its solo mount at the firewall...moving a bit while someone was working the wheel inside. Needs a new front motor mount as well. Is the toe from worn control arm busings??? Or what? Any help or suggestions about either of these cars would be greatly appreciated. Cars here in Costa rica are expensive...but generally good condition. I'm seeing the '88 tomorrow. The '86 has no rust, and seems pretty straight...speedo isn't working but everything else is. Trans whines somewhat-5spd. Engine pulls strong. A little carb work seems to be needed...bit of a bog transitioning from decel to cruise. What kind of mileage can I expect from either of these? Most important! Also need the station wagon for business purposes. Thanks for your time!
