Default Vrx 2008 key cover broken

Hello everyone

I have searched around on here but can't seem to find the solution to my problem.

I have a lancer vrx 2008 which has the keyless feature. Just now my cover for the ignition has broken off with one of the clips that hold it in broken off. So essentially since it doesn't stay on I can only put it on 1 way for it to start. The other way doesn't work as it doesn't turn all the way. Now this is ok but every time I turn it I feel it getting harder and harder. My concern is that it will break the other clip so I won't be able to turn it at all.

Now this is no worries as the key is fine to use in the scenario the cover for it breaks, right???? Nope the key will not start the car, it clicks over but refuses to start. I have tried both keys, tried it with the keyless fob in the car and using the other key as well. They key unlocks and locks the car just doesn't start when I go to turn it in the ignition.

Anyone know why? I have got a keyless cover coming in the next day or 2 but obviously curious as to why the key won't start the car

Default Heart

Keep the heart close to the ignition/steering column. Happened to me, have to buy a new cover for the heart. Plus have to reprogram the key (easy)
