Help with P0340, Check Engine Light always on
Does anyone know about the P0340 (CamShaft Position Sensor Malfunction) and how to fix that in a 1996 Mirage LS (1.8)...
They say I need to buy a new ignition, is this true or it's something else? plz
The car at first started to turn off during the first time he was on in the day, meaning if its cold he turns off but it has to pass a period around more than 5 hours, if not he doesn't do anything. Then we try with some ignition but he would give problems running, I couldnt pass of 65 mph...he would start to hecitate...so if anyone has any idea plz I would appreciate your help

This may or may not be true about the location but, I know the crank sensor in the 1.5 is right behind the lower timing cover. The Cam sensor in your engine may be behind the upper cover. I am not sure and will get back to you as soon as I get my manual out of the car. It is just too cold and my parents told me to stay upstairs for about 5-10 min.
Its not in the friggin ignition.
I know its on the crank with DSMs... and on the valve cover. Not quite sure where it would be on your car... however i do know that its noware near the ignition.

This sensor is "in" the Distributor for the 93-96 LS 1.8l. You have to replace the distributor to replace CSP sensor. I am working on this problem right now too. I have been threw 2 PCM's and a reman distributor and a brand new one. I still get that damn code thou. Is your car running very poorly at acceleration and wide open throttle?
ok here we go
the code outlines both the crank and cam sensor.
if u replace the distributor and still get the code than its the crank sensor.
the cam sensor for 99 under mitsubishis is inside the distributor. u can replace it complete or if ur mehcanically inclined you can strip a distributor at a junk yard that looks fairly new and remove the 2 little sensor looking things inside, one i coil pick up and other is cam sensor. the big black thing with a hole is your coil.
no the crank sensor is behind the timing cover. its a bit of a mission to replace. but just follow the little 2 wire conector and wires to it by the crank going behind the timing belt cover and replace the sensor.
early signs before and after its thrown the code is as u drive it hesitates and then goes. like loss of power for a second and then your good again. car runs hard n sudeenly a small jerk n lets go. it only does it once in a while. eventually itlle go kappot and your car will die altogether once in a while. idle drops all the sudden n car dies after stumbling. next thing you know when it gets really bad your car wont start at all.
mines has been doing it a few months no and 1 month ago it started dying and throwing the code. i changed the entire distributor to a brand new one and still. so next bet is the crank sensor.
good luck.
