Default Starter Grind

Hello All.

After I installed the new engine in the 99 Mirage 1.5 Auto. I reused the old starter and now it sounds like it needs a spacer. So I add space, still sounds like its grinding.

I bought brand new starter to get the same results, Im stuck here. I have tried spacers and no spacers.

while im turning the key.
I think I may have just figured out where maybe I went wrong on the motor install.
The TQ conv. is attached to the flywheel and then theres a Plate that attaches to the motor and then to the TQ conv.

Is it possible this Plate is reversed?

Ok now I am confused.

I took the motor back out to switch driveplate but now it wont let the trans be mounted.

The question now is Does the spacer go between the crank and the driveplate or the driveplate and the torque converter?
I will take a picture so ya'll cann see what Im looking at.

Driveplate Driveplate/TQ Converter spacer?
